Residents of Seme sub-county in Kisumu have been left tongues wagging after 8-feet long snake was found resting quietly next to a baby in Seme in Kisumu has got residents scratching their heads on what could be the explanation of the unfoldings.
The snake is reported to have crawled into the homestead on Wednesday afternoon before settling in the kitchen where a two-year-old baby was sleeping.
The baby's mother was busy collecting firewood in the compound and had no idea on what was going on.
When she came to the house, the unsuspecting mother bumped into a dead bleeding cock.
Curious to find out what had happened, she saw a long snake having coiled itself beside the baby.
“The snake was right before my baby. He was awake though not crying. I was so worried. I screamed out,” Janet Adhiambo, the nursing mother told Bulala FM on Wednesday.
The scared snake crawled away in the process after which the neighbours killed it.
77 years old Mzee Erastus Okwaro, the owner of the homestead believes that the snake had no intention of harming the baby.
“It was protecting the baby and that’s why it had to attack the cock instead. Big snakes are very intelligent and understand the science of humans,” he said.
He added that old snakes can reside with human beings in the same house for years without them noticing.
