In Kenyan politics, campaigns for the next election begins almost immediately after the end of one election. We just concluded August 2017 poll but eyes are already on the 2022 election.
For Uasin Gishu County, several politicians who lost during last year’s poll are already strategizing on how to redeem themselves in the coming poll scheduled for over 3 years to come.
Here are some of the political figures in Uasin Gishu we are likely to see stage a comeback 2022 election;
Bundotich Zedekah Kiprop
He mounted one of the biggest and well-oiled campaigns against governor Jackson Mandago but at the end, he fell short of unseating the incumbent.
Though he honourably conceded defeat, Buzeki, as he is popularly refereed to, has since nicknamed himself as 'the future governor'. With Mandago retiring and not eligible to vie for the seat in 2022, the billionaire businessman is seen as a front-runner to be the second governor of Uasin Gishu.
Kevin Okwara
The businessman with interest in hotel industry was on the blink of making history as the first non-Kalenjin elected Member of Parliament in a Kalenjin dominated-constituency until that was cut short by the 'tyranny of numbers'.
Okwara had secured the Jubilee party ticket for the Turbo parliamentary seat but somehow couldn’t keep the momentum until the end, and eventually lost to the current MP Janet Sitienei.
Turbo is a largely cosmopolitan constituency and should he (Okwara) decide to try his luck once again in politics and play his cards well, 2022 might be his year.
Rael Chebichii
She was a household name during the 2017 general elections in Uasin Gishu. She had won the hearts of many with her courageous and humble characters. Despite being a newcomer in politics, the youthful Chebichii had been tipped to floor the giant (Gladys Boss Shollei) in the race for the Woman Representative seat but that never came to pass.
However, as we head to 2022, Chebichii might just stage a comeback and win the seat. She will definitely be a woman to watch.
