Locals said the deceased Elbon Mongarora was heard quarreling with his parents over land inheritance before he threatened to teach them a lesson.

"I was returning from a shop when I heard Mongarora shouting at his parents that he will take his own life if he can't be given a piece of land to inherit. His parents told him off prompting him to hang himself on a tall tree 50 meters away from the homestead," said James Mariaria.

Mr Mariaria said the body was recovered by a woman who had gone to fetch firewood under the tree.

Area chief Fred Obae said the deceased had revealed to his friends that he wanted to be given a piece of land to sell.

"Parents won't give lands to their sons to sell," he noted.

Obae said a ritual was done by elders before the deceased body was moved from the scene.

"A sheep was hanged to death on the tree as by the Kisii customs before the body was taken to Nyamira hospital morgue," he added.
