The party leader resigned on Sunday afternoon.

Addressing the press in Nairobi, Murathe said his position in the party is 'no longer tenable'.

"I now find that it is no longer tenable to stay on as the party vice-chairman, given that I will have to sit in the same National Executive Council with a man I am taking to court to block from running for presidency" Murathe said.

Murathe caused a storm in the country when he first announced that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto do not have an agreement over 2022.

Murathe said if the two agreed on anything come 2022,‘then hiyo ni yao’.

On Saturday, he also vowed to block Ruto’s 2022 bid at the Supreme Court.
