The Keriko Secondary School administration is planning to use the Sh20 million donated by President Uhuru Kenyatta to improve infrastructure at the learning facility.
According to the school's principal Mr Daniel Mwariri, the President's donation will be used in improving infrastructure as well as equipping the school's science laboratory.
“We have had challenges of infrastructure in the school and therefore the token from the President will be used to work on the same and also equip the congested laboratory,” said Mr Mwariri.
The President made the donation after Peter Tabichi, a teacher at the school, paid a courtesy call to the Head of State at State House, Nairobi.
Tabichi is a physics and mathematics teacher who has placed the school on the global map after bagging the Global Teacher Award that comes with a Sh100 million prize.
Uhuru lauded teacher Tabichi for his commitment and integrity in the teaching profession.
"You have brought honour and pride to the people of Kenya and your win will raise the profile of the teaching profession. This is just the beginning, you have become an inspiration and mentor to your colleagues so that they can also aspire to greatness," said Uhuru.
The school has only one computer to its name.
Other challenges faced by the school include lack of a library, no water connection, congested classrooms and a single science lab which is also congested.
