With the governor now treated as prime suspect after his movements were located at crime scene, he will not have to fight to prevent a possible sentence any time soon.

But whether or not he will be found guilty, data obtained from his phone indicates that he was in constant communication with his aides Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero, who are also facing murder charges.

Interestingly, the two, who are believed to have coordinated the abduction and subsequent elimination of the Rongo University student, who was pregnant for the governor, did not brief taxi driver Jackson Gombe about their motive.

Fearing a possible death sentence, detectives revealed, Gombe gave a blow by blow account on what transpired during the fateful day.

In his statement seen by the Standard, Gombe, besides insisting that he was not aware he was being used to commit a crime, said that he realised things were not working when journalist Barack Oduor, supposed to be one of Toyota Fielder passenger, jumped out of the moving vehicle.

Further, he said, Governor Okoth Obado was at the crime scene, evidence which corroborated with phone data that traced the governor at Kodera forest.

Interestingly, Governor Okoth Obado had 'lied' to the detectives that he was in Nairobi thus throwing him into unprecedented limbo.

Mr. Gombe, along with another mysterious taxi driver, are key witnesses in the murder saga that could end the Migori county boss's career.
