Former Gem Member of Parliament Jakoyo Midiwo has differed with National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi over the alleged involvement of Interior CS Fred Matiang'i in the fake gold saga.
Midiwo hit out at Mbadi for trying to exonerate Matiang'i, arguing that the tough-talking CS needed to explain to Kenyans how the fake gold founded its way into a compound in Kileleshwa that was being guarded by GSU officers.
Speaking on Tuesday on NTV's AM Live show, Jakoyo hit out at those politicising the fake gold scandal.
"The story out there was that gold was intercepted at JKIA. How did gold find its way to Kileleshwa? How did that gold find its way in a compound whose gate is guarded by the GSU? Matiang'i must explain. Mbadi is wrong because what I saw about Mbadi, he is trying to exonerate Matiang'i. We can't play politics for the sake of it," said Midiwo.
"We need to know how did it leave the airport. We need to know all these things. We also want to ask how did somebody who is in the radar of the DCI in the name of Wetangula was allowed to go through the same airport where the gold disappeared to go to Hong Kong. Some things are wrong. How come he has not written a statement?" he added.
Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has been linked to the fake gold saga and is expected to be questioned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) upon his return from Hong Kong where he is attending an anti-corruption summit.
Jakoyo called on the DCI to arrest all those alleged to have been involved in the scam including the Bungoma senator.
The fake gold saga has opened up a new political battlefront with Deputy President William Ruto and Raila Odinga allies trading harsh words.
