Uhuru has in various occasions refused to be dragged into the succession politics saying his focus was on achieving his Big Four Agenda and ensuring the success of his unity deal with ODM leader Raila Odinga, the Building Bridges Initiative  (BBI).

"Those speaking about succession can go ahead but I am not with them. We have never engaged in 2022 politics with Raila," he told journalists on Friday during an exclusive interview.

Although Kabogo agrees with Uhuru that it was too early for 2022 politics, he is of opinion that the Jubilee party leader should start giving signals on how he would see the country transition to the next government after his retirement.

"The succession politics to me is neither here nor there. President Uhuru Kenyatta has got three or more years. But even as he plans his legacy, he should also be planning his exit," the former county boss stated.

Kabogo further threw his weight behind calls for the election of Jubilee Party officials before the next election saying it would help the ruling party strengthen its support in the grassroots.

The calls were made over the weekend by Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru who noted party polls will help avoid divisions such as the one which have been sparked by remarks by interim vice chairman David Murathe.

Murathe, a close ally of the President said the Kikuyu community has no MOU with Deputy President William Ruto over 2022, sentiments which have caused sharp divisions within the governing party.
