Mr Moi was in the company of Samburu East MP Naisula Lesuuda and Kenya Films and Classification Board chief executive Dr Ezekiel Mutua. They held a brief meeting before proceeding for the day's function.

"Today I was hosted by H.E Kalonzo Musyoka and Senator Enoch Wambua. In the company of Hon Naisula Lesuuda, Hon Madam Nyenze and CEO KFCB Dr. Ezekiel Mutua. It was a privilege to serve with the great people of Kitui county," Mr Moi wrote.

Mr Musyoka was first brought into national politics by retired President Daniel Moi. Last year, the elderly Moi asked Mr Musyoka to visit him personally in Kabarak.

“On my own behalf, my family and the people of Baringo and mostly importantly on behalf of Mzee, I have come to condole with you and your family at this trying moment,” Gideon Moi had said when he visited Kalonzo last year as quoted by the Standard.

Gideon added: “Mzee has sent me to request you to come and visit him after you bury your father so that he can personally condoles with you.”

Gideon Moi has already announced his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022. Also, Mr Musyoka is keen to go for the seat. He first contested in 2007 when he finished third.

While it's not clear if the two will form a coalition, they have however been close family friends. Musyoka served as Education minister during Daniel Moi's era.
