Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) has threatened to sue Governors council chairman Oparanya. This comes after Oparanya ordered all counties not to remit money to the union as the strike bites.
A letter dated February 15, as seen by Daily Nation, indicates that the government will no longer be tasked with deducting dues from the medical practitioners to remit the same to the union as it has been in the past.
The council agreed that the full salaries of the nurses will be paid to their accounts without any form of deduction. The decision was reached following an agreement between the national and county governments after efforts to end the stalemate with nurses hit a snag.
According to Oparanya the move was reached in accordance with section 52 of Labour Relations Act.
KNUN secretary General has insisted that the nurses will not report to work until their grievances are addressed. He has accused the government of play tricks with the nurses at the expense of their hard labor.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had on Wednesday directed all nurses to resume work by Friday 8.00 am. Some of the nurses have defied the order from the Head of State despite the threat to fire them.
