The family of the slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno has raised concerns about smearing campaigns witnessed on social media.
Funeral committee chair Elijah Opiyo said a section of social media users are exaggerating funeral expenses contrary to the target of his team.
“There are people who intend to jeopardize efforts of our family in making burial arrangements for our daughter. We are condemning them,” said Opiyo.
He added: "They are coming with inaccurate figures even scaring our guests. This is bullying and it must stop."
A list circulating on social media estimates the total cost at Sh2.5 million while the official figure by the committee is Sh1.1 million.
Mr. Opiyo said the propaganda is portraying the family negatively as spendthrifts whereas the estimated amount is reasonable.
Sharon will be buried on October 18th after the family established that the strides achieved to get justice so far are reasonable.
Governor Okoth Obado, his aides Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero have been charged of her murder and they have already taken plea.
