It took last-minute intervention by President Uhuru Kenyatta to save Senate Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen from impending ouster, reveals the Nation.
For weeks now, the Elgeyo-Marakwet senator has locked horns with Jubilee top leadership with the ongoing evictions from Mau being the latest elephant in the room.
And on Saturday, Jubilee Party National Management Committee reportedly held a 6-hour meeting in which Murkomen's fate was sealed.
In the meeting, the party recommended Uasin Gishu Senator Margaret Kamar and her Bomet counterpart Christopher Lang'at for the job, only for Uhuru to intervene at the eleventh hour.
On Sunday afternoon, minutes before the announcement of the decision, President Uhuru reportedly asked the committee to drop the decision adding that the matter would still be handled soberly.
It is further believed that the DP, William Ruto, also made frantic calls on Saturday to the Head of State, where he urged him to intervene on the matter.
While Murkomen maintains that the ongoing eviction from Mau Forest is illegal, Jubilee Party, through Raphael Tuju, defiantly insisted that the exercise will continue.
On Saturday, Murkomen dared Uhuru to visit the region and publicly declare his position on the matter.
