Speaking to the press at Turbo, in Lugari Sub-County on Friday after holding a meeting with party officials, the Bungoma Senator said that his party is still strong despite the defection of the politician.

He also said that he is unsure whether the move will make him stage a political comeback in 2022.

“As a party, our stand is that Dr Khalwale was our party deputy leader and he has made a choice to go to people he likes more than he likes us. I don’t know if the choice will make him politically stronger,” Wetang’ula said, as Daily Nation quoted.

He also said that the political outfit has embarked on the plan to strengthen its roots in different parts of the nation as he contemplates how to approach the Presidential race when that time comes.

The defection of the former senator has continued to elicit mixed reactions from all quarters.  Khalwale has insisted that he will support Deputy President William Ruto until he ascends to power.

He has affirmed that Ruto, who is considered one of the front runners in the race for power, has what it takes to succeed President Kenyatta.
