KPL champs Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has today, Monday, unveiled eight players ahead of the new season.
The event, which took place at a Nairobi hotel saw new players, with among the eight being striker Erick Ombija, who graduates from Division 2 side Gor Mahia Youth and Kenyatta University student, central midfielder Castro Ogendo.
Other players are; former Viper SC attacker Erisa Ssekisambu and compatriot left back Shafik Batambuze (Singida United), left-back Geoffrey Ochieng (Western Stima), striker Nicholas Kipkurui (Zoo Kericho), defender Pascal Ogweno (Kariobangi Sharks), and attacking midfielder Kenneth Muguna (Tirana).
"We have identified and given them to the coaches for approval. All players that we recruit are endorsed by our technical bench," said Ambrose Rachier.
Rachier noted that some players will be loaned and dropped while others will be allowed to renew their contracts with the club.
"It is upon the coach to recommend the players to loan, release and those that we should not renew their contracts," added Rachier.
On the position of the coach, Rachier said that he has received 55 applicants for the position of the head coach, following the resignation of Briton Dyllan Kerr, who joined South Africa's Premier Soccer League, side Black Leopards.
"We have received 55 applicants to fill the position of head coach. Meanwhile, Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno will handle the team as we review the credentials of the applicants to a small number for the interviews," added Rachier.
The update on the coach and unveiling of the 8 players comes just two days before Gor Mahia host Malawi giants Nyasa Big Bullets in the first leg of the preliminary round on Wednesday, at Kasarani
Meanwhile, Gor Mahia has parted ways with defender Wesley Onguso and midfielder Kevin 'Ade' Omondi.
The two players have been offloaded by Gor as the team seek to take shape ahead of the new season, that is scheduled to kick off in a fortnight.
