The officer was arrested on Saturday, over allegations of picking the money in Soko Mjinga, only a few months after he was arrested over similar claims and later released.

According to witnesses, the suspect was arrested while driving in his official police car by detectives working on a tip-off from members of the public.

He was booked in at the Central Police Station, grilled and later released on police bond, with the occurrence book indicating that he was in the process of receiving Sh20,000.

"Today, 16/11/19 at around 1600hrs, a team of EACC officers acting on a tip-off from a member of public arrested one (name withheld) at Mtongwe. He is currently facing charges of receiving a bribe," reads police report seen by the Standard.

County Police Commander Augustine Nthumbi refused to comment on the matter, which was also the case with Urban OCPD Eliud Monari.

"I have spoken to the Urban OCPD and he is headed to Central Police Station where he will issue a statement," said Nthumbi, while Monari refused to comment on the matter since investigations are ongoing.
