Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday steered clear of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report ahead of its release. Speaking at Covenant Church International, Enkongu Enkare, Naroosura location, in Narok County, declared his stand on the legalization of gay rights.
The second in command said that he is not ready to back a culture that goes against the African norms.
He said that the country is ready to host the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD+25) but will not create room for gay rights. He said that the country is built upon the African culture and Christianity and gay is not acceptable.
Bishop Peter Ole Nakula, the chairman of the Narok Pastors Association and Bishop Kepha Omae of Redeemed Gospel Church said that they are not happy with the aim of the conference.
Ruto assured the church that the government will not support gay rights under any circumstances. “But on things that do not conform to our cultures and religion, we will firmly reject,” he reiterated, as quoted by Daily Nation.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has also been firm on the issue of gay rights. Uhuru has been asking Kenyans to maintain their good morals. He also said that he will not pave the way for such a discussion.
