What started as a journey to visit parents and family back at Borabu settlement scheme ended in disarray for Monica Nyakerarario and her son Raymond Moseti.
At Nyangoge in Nyamira, family members gathered perhaps trying to come to terms with sad reality that in the next couple of days, they will be burying two people.
George Momanyi, her cousin, narrated how the news caused shock when they were told that the two perished in Egesa Shuttle that rolled in Bomet on Thursday.
"I am yet to come to terms. We were waiting for her at home only to be told later while calling that she was no more with her child," said a tearful Momanyi.
"For years, she has struggled to set a business in Nairobi and everyone was looking up to her. This tragedy has pulled us back as a family," he added.
According to him, the deceased was an upcoming entrepreneur, mainly focusing on selling second hand cloths commonly called Mitumba.
Reports indicate that the driver of the Egesa Shuttle was trying to avoid head-on collision with an oncoming car before he lost control and veered off the road.
Bomet Central Police boss Musa Omari said that five people died in the accident. The driver is in hospital and will receive a statement once discharged.
“We are waiting for the driver to recover so that he can record a statement with police and help with investigations,” said Omari.
