Trade and Industrialisation cabinet secretary Peter Munya has admitted that there is corruption in government, saying that it was being orchestrated by high-placed government officials.
Speaking exclusively to NTV, the former Meru governor said that corruption was a big tragedy and manifesting itself in government projects with corrupt individuals inflating the costs in order to benefit.
"Corruption is a big tragedy in the Republic of Kenya that is contributing to a high cost of living for the people. Where a road could be constructed at a reasonable price, because of corruption, the price is inflated. ( Ufisadi ni janga kubwa katika taifa la Kenya ambalo linachangia kuweka gharama kubwa kwa maisha ya wananchi. Pale barabara ingetenezwa kwa bei nafuu, kwa sababu pesa ya ufisadi lazima iwe hapo, gharama inaenda juu)," the CS said.
Munya's words come in the wake of the high-profile indictment of Finance Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich and PS Kamau Thuge, who are facing a raft of charges relating to corruption.
The Uhuru administration, through the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), has been cracking down on individuals implicated in corruption.
Rotich and Thuge were released on bail Monday.
