Speaking in parliament on Thursday, the lawmaker said that the country needs to give more attention to children’s health. She noted that children have been suffering because of the shortage of health facilities.

The woman rep reminded leaders to unite in the promotion of the health condition of children in different parts of the country.

“There is no reason to limit this issue to referral hospitals. Now we have devolution. We have 47 counties. There is no reason why all our level five hospitals cannot become referral facilities if we put in place those standards I was speaking about previously. And then the funding that goes to the counties for purposes of hospitals. This capitation or conditional grants there is no reason they should be taken to county hospitals,” she said in part.

She noted that the lack of a national referral hospital has made it hard for parents to access quality health care for their children. She further said that she will consult the health committee over the matter.

“We do not have a national referral hospital for our children. So currently our children are everywhere. We have children’s wing there and here. We need to consider also and I want to propose to the health committee,” she added.
