Ahead of the official handover of the Building Bridges Initiative report to President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday, Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has expressed his expectations from the report.
According to Leader of Majority in the National Assembly, the BBI report should prioritise the introduction of the parliamentary system of government if it is to have any meaningful impact.
"If it doesn't have the introduction of the Parliamentary system through a referendum as provided for in article 257, I can tell you from where I seat and come from, BBI will not have any meaning," the Garissa lawmaker said.
Duale has in the past insisted that only the parliamentary system can address the inequality in representation.
A key member of Deputy President William Ruto brigade that has on several occasions opposed BBI, Duale has skillfully navigated the debate without appearing to antagonize the DP's camp.
The BBI report will be officially be launched on Wednesday at the Bomas of Kenya. Thereafter, it will be subjected to public debate.
