Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has clarified his position on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Speaking on Saturday at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, Mr Mudavadi reiterated his support for the BBI but under one condition.
He said that he would only rally behind the initiative as long as it elevates the interest of the common Kenyans.
''I said that I am in support of the BBI but I also said that it must focus the issues that the people of Kenya are grappling with (Nilisema kwamba ninaunga BBI mkono, lakini nikasema lazima BBI ililenge maswala ya wakenya)," the ANC leader said.
He went on to hit out at politicians keen on sowing divisions in the country.
''Let's avoid the politics of division because I love unity and I want to see Kenyans working together (Hii siasa ya mchezo ya kujaribu kuleta utangano kati ya viongozi tuepukane nayo, mimi napenda amani na kukaa na Wakenya wote takafanye kazi pamoja), '' he added.
There had been uncertainty over whether the ANC supremo would attend the meeting but showed up at the eleventh hour.
Mudavadi's words were consistent with what he said when the BBI report was launched to members of the public by President Uhuru Kenyatta at Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi.
At Bomas, he warned against the initiative's focus being the sharing of leadership positions among politicians.
Supporters of the game-changing report say that it will form the basis of ushering in a new era of prosperity and unity.
