Former Nominated Senator Joy Gwendo has pleaded guilty to three counts of issuing bad cheques.

The former lawmaker is alleged to have issued the cheques to Kisumu East Cotton Growers Cooperative Society.

The total amount of the three counts is over Sh3 million.  However, Gwendo, agreed to settle the matter out of court saying she will pay the money in four instalments.

Despite her commitment, the court said it will issue a sentencing on December 7.

She was arrested by officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) early this year after the Director of Public Prosecution gave consent to a charge of stealing, issuing bad cheque and abuse of office.

Gwendo is accused of using her position as a state officer to award herself Ksh.2.2 million, the property of the cooperative society through Kivuli Development Initiatives account.
