Governor John Nyagarama on Tuesday sent several payroll officers on a compulsory leave amid escalating wage bill complaints from members of the public.
The governor's move comes after claims that the payroll officers have been paying salaries to ghost workers making the county wage bill to hike.
Nyagarama ordered his Deputy Amos Nyaribo to head the scrutiny on the payroll to know the ghost workers who have been siphoning money money from the county government.
The estranged payroll officers forced to take a compulsory leave risk losing their jobs if found guilty.
Nyamira county is lagging behind development-wise because of hiked graft in the county and paying people salaries who are not reporting to work stations.
Victor Swanya, Wiper party politician lauded the county boss saying he is now working for the people of Nyamira.
"Nyagarama has seen the light after several months of deep sleep on his job. Thorough scrutiny must be done on the payroll to know whether the officers on leave have been paying salaries illegally," he said.
He challenged Nyagarama not to spare corrupt workers.
