On Tuesday morning residents of Ikerege location in Kuria West Sub County woke up in arm protesting over heightened insecurity in the area after a businessman was on Monday evening shot dead by gunmen with unclear motives.
Patrick Ghati Sagano who runs a wholesale in Ikerege town was shot dead as he was leaving home from his business premise.
According to Kehancha OCPD Jacob Walukhe, the businessman was accosted by the gunmen who shot him in the chest killing him instantly.
"We are yet to establish the motive of the killers because nothing was stolen at the time of the incident which complicates the whole issue.
Eye witnessed said the assailants escaped on a motorcycle after shooting the man.
Daniel Chacha Matiko, a resident, said that the residents have been complaining insecurity but no stern action seems to have been taken by concerned authorities including hippo attacks which have been prevalent in the area.
He urged the leaders to intervene as the residents were living in fear of what might happen to them any time.
