Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has distanced himself from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s succession talk.
In a statement issued by the ODM Party, Odinga is committed to supporting President Kenyatta before he completes his second, and final term in government.
The political party noted that the former Prime Minister remains active in the affairs of the outfit, adding that Odinga has been attending all crucial meetings to address matters affecting the party.
“We want our members and the general public to know that our PL @RailaOdinga is very much involved in party affairs, and he is always present for party meetings/activities. However, what he has not done and will not do is to involve himself in politics of 2022 as at now,” ODM Party tweeted on Monday.
The newfound love between Raila and President Kenyatta has continued to cause jitters in Deputy President William Ruto’s camp.
The allies of the second in command have read malice in the move by Raila.
The opposition leader, who is considered one of Ruto’s greatest threat to presidency has promised to stand with Uhuru, to leave behind a legacy after 2022.
