Members of the Kisumu County Assembly (MCAs) have reacted angrily following a gun drama witnessed at the Assembly on Tuesday afternoon.
Drama ensued after MCAs confronted the Sergeant-At-Arms George Amayo for taking away the mace, in an act aimed at adjourning the House.
Amayo drew a gun and shot in the air. Shortly after the incident, MCAs condemned the incident in an address to members of the press.
Led by the Majority Whip Gard Olima, the MCA’s have now accused Kisumu County Assembly Speaker George Onyango Oloo of planning to eliminate them.
“We want to say that Speaker of this County has done a lot of ills. As the Majority Whip, I want to say that Members will have to go on with their business of developing and making Kisumu great as our governor has always said,” said Olima.
“But if the Speaker is hell-bent on mismanaging this Assembly and giving instructions of eliminating members, we are not going to agree and we are saying as Members of the Kisumu County Assembly that we are no longer going to work with the Speaker Honorable Onyango Oloo going forward. Onyango has to leave,” he added.
Kondele MCA Joachim Oketch Swagga on his part accused the Speaker of ‘trying to bring down the great County of Kisumu’.
“Enough is enough. We are not going to allow you,” he said.
“I have doubted the leadership of Onyanyo Oloo before. It is now clear that Onyango Oloo has failed to provide leadership to this Assembly,” added Market Milimani ward MCA Seth Ochieng Kanga.
The Speaker has previously denied any wrongdoing.
