Two legislators allegedly plotting to craft impeachment motion against Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i have been positively identified by the Nation.
Minority Leader John Mbadi on Monday claimed that the fake gold scandal was being used by MPs allied to Dr William Ruto to kick out Matiang'i, following his elevation as chairman Cabinet Implementation and Communication committee, which supervises government projects.
According to Mbadi, Ruto's team is keen to kick out Matiang'i given the confidence bestowed by the president upon him. Previously, Dr Ruto was in charge of coordinating and monitoring government projects.
“The issue of gold is being used as an excuse. Since Mr Matiang’i was given added responsibilities the DP has been very unhappy. I have information that two MPs are being used to draft an impeachment motion against Mr Matiang’i,” Mr Mbadi said.
He said ODM will not support motion "which is anchored on flimsy grounds if it ever finds itself on the floor of the House. People don’t serve in the Cabinet because one likes them, they serve at the pleasure of the president for the good of the people."
And it has now been established that Belgut MP Nelson Koech and his Kiharu counterpart Ndindi Nyoro are the ones tasked to craft the motion. The two are close allies of the DP. They are also critics of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Dr Matiang'i.
In an interview with Sunday Nation, Dr Matiang'i refused to comment on fake gold scam, in which fraudsters are said to have mimicked him to dupe members of Dubai Royal family.
“You don’t expect me to respond to whether fraudsters mentioned my name in what is an active investigation.”
