Divisions have emerged within the ruling party, with a section of MPs rallying behind Deputy President William Ruto while another faction supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta's quest on Big Four agenda and fight against corruption.

So vicious has been the battle that former Vice Chair David Murathe opted out of the party, insisting that Ruto has no chance to succeed Uhuru. In fact, Murathe, a close political ally of the president, warned that there could be a massive walkout from the party of Ruto is not blocked.

But on Friday, Uhuru was pictured with Majority Leader Aden Duale at State House in Jubilee party shirt when he received Wajir West parliamentary aspirant Ahmed Kolosh who opted to defend his seat in the ruling party.

"With Jubilee Party leader and President of Kenya H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta when he received our candidate Hon. Ahmed Kolosh for the forthcoming Wajir West Parliamentary by-election slated for 25 April, 2019 at State House, Nairobi.

"We assured our party leader that North Eastern is a Jubilee territory and we shall mobilize wananchi and members of our party in Wajir West so as to deliver the seat to our party," wrote Duale.

Mr Duale, who has been in the team accusing ODM leader Raila Odinga of allegedly sabotaging Jubilee Party by sponsoring infighting in the name of handshake with Uhuru, seemed to dismiss claims that the party is not united.

"As you continue uniting the nation and building a strong national brand called Jubilee, all Kenyans of all tribes, region and religion can now call it their party of choice. Thank you our party leader for always being there for the leadership of the party," he added.

Mr Kolosh, formally in ODM party, lost in an election petition in March this year. He will now face ODM candidate Prof Yusuf Elmi, who recently joined the Orange party. The by-election would be the first for Jubilee facing ODM ever since Raila reconciled with Uhuru.
