Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji has condemned last week's killing of two people by suspected Al-Shabaab militants in a bus that was heading to Garissa town.
Haji now wants the government to increase security surveillance and flush out suspected terror militants who are penetrating the borders.
Speaking to journalists in Garissa Town on Sunday, the senator said that Al-shabaab militants should not be given space to resurface.
He said that the militia group wants to wedge a war between Kenyans on realign and faith grounds.
“We must not allow them (Al-shabaab) to resurface and the government must increase security operations in the larger North Eastern region,” he said.
Haji said that Al-shabaab has caused Kenyans pain and the militants must be fought mercilessly.
He warned youths against being influenced and radicalised to join militia terror groups.
On Friday last week, suspected Al-Shabaab militants allegedly killed two people after ambushing a bus they were commuting in to Garissa.
The attackers armed with AK 47 rifles ambushed the bus belonging to ‘Kilas’ company between Ijara and Sangailu towns, separated the passengers on religion grounds and executed the two said to be non-Muslims.
Military forces are hunting down the suspected Al-Shabaab even as security agencies assure locals of their safety.
On Saturday, North Eastern Regional Coordinator Mohammed Birik said security has been tightened across the region.
