Former US President Barrack Obama could be installed as a Luo elder when he visits the country mid this month.
This is if the wish of the Luo Council of Elders to have him installed as an elder is granted.
Reports indicate that the elders have sought the help of ODM Party leader Raila Odinga to assist them in having a meeting with Obama so that they can inform him of the plans to make him a Luo elder.
“We are aware that Obama will be in the Country to have talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga. As elders, we also want to meet him and that can only happen if Raila ushers us in,” Luo Council of Elders Secretary Nyandiko Ongadi is quoted by mwakilishi.com.
He added, "The last time Obama visited when he was the senator we were roughed up by his security after approaching him with respect and honor to get him installed him as an elder."
He said that the Luo culture allows them to recognize Luos or any other dignitaries as a form of respect.
Obama served as 44th US President for two terms, between January 20, 2009, and January 20, 2017.
Obama is expected to visit Kenya on the 16th of this month. He will make a visit to his ancestral village of K'Ogelo, in Siaya County.
