The president of Atheists Society in Kenya Harrison Mumia has reacted following the demise of Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Bob Collymore.
The giant telco boss died on Monday morning at his Nairobi home after a long battle with cancer.
According to a statement from the company’s Board Chairman Nicholas Nganga, Collymore was battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and has been in and out of hospitals locally and abroad.
Reacting to the news, Mumia said people should accept and even celebrate death since, without it, life would be very 'boring'.
The Atheists Society president, who believes there is no heaven or hell and claims God is imaginary, stated that he does not fear death, noting if he had a choice, he would not choose to live forever.
"Bob Collymore is dead. That's life. Death is something we should accept, and even celebrate. Without death, life would be meaningless. Indeed life would be boring if we were not to die. I wouldn't want to live forever. Bob is dead. That's life," he posted on Twitter.
The Guyanese-born British citizen was appointed as Safaricom CEO in November 2010 and has been instrumental in transforming the telecommunications firm to be the most profitable entity in East and Central Africa.
According to celebrated journalist Jeff Koinage, Collymore was prepared for his death as his doctor had told him he would be 'lucky' to live past July.
"I have never seen anyone more prepared for death...I was with him this Saturday (29th June 2019) and he kept saying “I have lived a good life…I have some regrets… it is not a perfect life but I am ready now,” recalled Koinage speaking to Citizen TV.
