In an interview on Citizen TV's JKL Show on Wednesday, Sonko confessed he used to smoke bhang in the company of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

This was when he was MP for Makadara while Waititu represented Embakasi constituency.

"When we were MPs we used to smoke bhang with Waititu in some toilet there. He used to hide bhang in his socks. Mimi niliwacha lakini bado yeye anavuta bangi na ni Gavana (I quit smoking but Waititu has not stopped despite being a governor)," said Sonko.

The sentiments have agitated Gladys Chania who has criticised the duo for failing to be role models to younger generations and tainting the image of Parliament which is an institution that should be occupied by people of high integrity.

"In this country among the most unacceptable social behaviour is the use of MARIJUANA or abuse of anything classified as illicit is totally immoral. As so it is also illicit to glorify having done an illicit affair or deed," she said in a statement posted on her Facebook page on Friday.

Chania, who is the founder and chief executive officer of Real@Home Rehab Centre in Thika, said it was disturbing for Nairobi and Kiambu residents to now discover they were being represented by leaders who had indulged in drugs abuse and they were yet to undergo detoxification.

The former Kiambu Women Representative seat contender noted the confessions by the Nairobi county boss had eroded the trust people had bestowed on them.

"From a psychologist desk this equals to mean the deed is OK, the institution in you and the one you represent is tattered and also people shouldn't trust you because they know the effect of substance abuse," she said.

"All said and done this has given a direction of a country with non-serious representation. It's sad and absurd to make me know am represented by a substance abuse client that has not been rehabilitated yet," she noted.

Chania asked relevant authorities to take Sonko's revelations 'with strict measure it deserves coming from a people's representative'.

"Our children, families and society are losing role models. It's a sad affair," the counsellor observed.
