In an interview with the Sunday Nation, the Garissa Township MP delved deeper into the apparent wrangles between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

He sided with the Uhuru's faction which has maintained that there is no written document compelling the President to endorse Ruto as his successor after his retirement.

Duale said that the two never signed any Memorandum of Understanding and the President does not owe Ruto any debt for his twin backings of Uhuru's candidatures in 2013 and 2017.

"The President and Dr Ruto were paired candidates in 2013 and 2017 general elections. To the best of my knowledge, there is no written MOU between them as regards 2022 general elections," he said.

"Furthermore, there are no political debts owed to anyone. But the Jubilee rank and file in all our strongholds are happy with the development record of the President and his deputy," he added.

He added that Jubilee will only use Uhuru's achievements to propel Ruto to the top seat, using what he did with Uhuru to convince Kenyans to give him his turn to complete the job.

Duale's remarks come as an echo to recent ones by embattled former Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe.

The former Gatanga lawmaker is currently under fire from the DP's allies over what they term plotting Ruto's downfall.

Speaking in Vihiga on December 26 last year, Murathe said that Uhuru and his Central Kenya region are not indebted to Ruto.

He added that Ruto should not expect the region's automatic backing come 2022.

However, Ruto's allies are not having any of that.
