The shortlisting of former Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru for the Nairobi deputy governor post is a big boost that could hand her a political lifeline, political analyst Peter Ngure has said.
Ngure says that Wanjiru who has been in the political cold for years could make a big come back if she sails through as Sonko’s deputy.
In an interview on Thursday, Ngure said that the Jesus Is Alive Ministries Bishop stands a higher chance of being picked as Sonko’s deputy.
“I don’t know the criteria they will use to arrive at the candidate but Bishop Wanjiru's chances of being picked are high,” he said.
Ngure said that Wanjiru’s shortlist could have a link to the 2022 succession politics.
“Bishop Wanjiru commands a huge following and her nomination could have something to do with 2022,” he claimed.
Governor Sonko shortlisted Wanjiru, gender activist Agnes Kagure, lawyers Karen Nyamu and Jane Weru for the deputy post.
The post was left vacant after the resignation of Polycarp Igathe in January.
