Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu insists that it's not a must Deputy President William Ruto becomes President Uhuru Kenyatta's successor in 2022, adding that he should not hide in fight against graft to belittle his boss.
On his Facebook page, Mr Wambugu, a fierce critic of DP Ruto, accused the Deputy Party leader of Jubilee of sabotaging the war against corruption by dragging his community.
"The need to fight public theft and get Kenyans to live together cohesively will not be sacrificed so that one man can pursue his ambition for the Presidency. In short - we will not stop fighting corruption or uniting Kenyans so that William Ruto can be President. Kenya is more important than any single person’s ambition; including his," he wrote.
Mr Wambugu added: "So if Ruto cannot campaign for the Presidency within this reality he can as well quit the race. It’s not written anywhere that he must be President."
His statement comes just a day after Senate Minority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen accused Uhuru of allegedly using the fight against corruption to block Ruto's 2022 bid.
The Elgeyo-Marakwet senator also challenged Uhuru to formally declare if he's interested in his deputy, adding that Ruto's team is ready to quit Jubilee and forge the way forward.
“You cannot hide behind the handshake and fight against graft when we know that the agenda is to fight Ruto politically. Uhuru should come out and tell us he is tired with his deputy and we will call it a day,” said Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen.
