For three hours at State House, the MPs promised to vote in favour of the new proposals according to Aden Duale.

"The president took at least one hour explaining to them why he chose that route," Duale said in Citizen TV.

The president has proposed 8% VAT on petroleum products among other austerity measures to finance a huge budget.

MPs Shadrack Mose (Kitutu Masaba), Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango) and Jerusha Momanyi (Nyamira), said they will stand with the people on Thursday.

"Our people are crying and accepting VAT will be suicidal to us. The president must look for other ways to collect taxes," said Nyamoko.

Mr. Mose added: "We are rejecting the proposals in good faith. Our people are already over burdened."

They had joined NASA's Richard Onyonka, Simba Arati, Janet Ong'era and Sylvanus Osoro.

On Thursday, MPs will vote for it against the proposal despite most of them having promised to back the president.

But even after the PGs both at State House and Orange House, hundreds of MPs are determined to floor down the president's proposal.
