The current dry conditions being experienced in the country might not improve anytime soon, the weatherman has warned.
According to the Kenya Meteorological Department Director Stella Aura, poor rains might persist until May, which is usually the end of the season.
“Based on the current conditions and the projected weather conditions, dry conditions are expected to dominate most parts of the country leading to further deterioration of food security and depletion of water resources,” Ms Aura said.
According to the Met director, people residing in drought-prone areas might require help.
“Areas affected by drought will have to be assisted in order to save livelihoods. Conditions are expected to get better if the October-December short rains season has enough rainfall,” noted Ms Aura.
The analysis of the amount of rainfall received in different parts of the country until mid-April indicates that it was less than the average amounts for this period as required.
“The projected low amounts of rainfall for the remaining days of April and the month of May will have no impact on the performance of the season.” noted the Met director.
