Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has accused Deputy President William Ruto of 'stealing' victories for Embakasi South and Ugenya constituencies in Friday's by-elections, adding that Jubilee didn't participate.
For the better part of Saturday, Ruto and a section of leaders allied to him, celebrated David Ochieng' victory in Ugenya and Julius Mawathe win in Embakasi South, claiming that it was a big boost to his camp.
“Congratulations Ochieng and Mawathe for your God-given victory. Jameni wacheni MUNGU aitwe MUNGU. The hustler nation has spoken. The people have decided. GLORY TO THE ALMIGHTY GOD,” he tweeted.
But Mr Ngunjiri, who has been leading anti-Ruto team, dismissed Ruto's camp, insisting that the victory should only be credited to the participants and their respective parties.
“I don’t know what they are celebrating. Jubilee was not part of the elections. It is Kalonzo who has beaten Raila. The Ruto team should not steal Wiper’s victory,” he said.
He added that those claiming victory are against the handshake.
“You cannot be in Jubilee and claim to have won the elections. That means you contradicted the President and you don’t belong to Jubilee,” he added.
The Orange Democratic Movement party which had highly expected to have her candidates win, says it will go back to the drawing board and investigate why it's candidates lost in the two polls.
Director of Elections Junet Mohammed also said that Jubilee should not take credit since President Uhuru Kenyatta did not field any candidate in either polls as claimed by Ruto's team.
