Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong’o on Tuesday presided over the commissioning of Kirindo Bridge in West Seme ward, Seme Constituency.
The opening of the bridge constructed at a cost of Sh27.5 million will enhance transportation of fish from beaches of Lake Victoria to the various market places within, and beyond Kisumu County.
Speaking at the function, the governor encouraged local fishermen and residents to invest in cage farming so as to improve their yields.
He further urged all Kisumu County residents to enroll for the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) ahead of the Kisumu County Universal Health Care official launch in August, this year.
“The county will equip all health facilities with medicine and the right human resource as well as set up boards of management that all health workers will be answerable to,” he said.
The Governor later led a ground breaking ceremony of an administration block and classrooms at the Alwala Mixed Secondary School in Seme.
He was in the company of area Member of Parliament (MP) Dr James Nyikal, County Executive Member (CEC) for Roads Thomas Ondijo, CEC for Tourism Achie Alai Ojany, CEC for Finance Nerry Achar, CEC for Education John Ogone, among other local leaders.
