Nyando Member of Parliament (MP) Jared Okello now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to dissolve the National Assembly, after claims that a section MPs received bribes to reject a report by a joint Parliamentary report on alleged importation of illegal and contaminated sugar into the country.
The report was shot down by MPs last week, with allegations that a section of them received as low as Sh5, 000 in bribes from unknown sources to kill the report.
The report recommended among others that relevant government agencies investigate Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) Henry Rotich, former Agriculture CS Willy Bett and former Trade and Industrialization CS Aden Mohammed after being linked to importation of inappropriate sugar.
Addressing the press in Kisumu on Monday, Okello said that by killing the report, MPs proved that they are no longer willing to serve the interests of Kenyans.
“It is a big shame that some MPs can actually take bribes to reject a report that had a prospect of helping farmers and those working in various sugar factories in the country,” said the first time MP.
“That means that as MPs we are not ready to serve the interests of Kenyans. As Nyando MP, I call on the President and Speaker to dissolve this Parliament so that Kenyans can go back to elections and elect people who are willing to serve their interests,"he added.
