The County Government of Mombasa through the Department of Finance and Economic Planning has warned traders to be wary of fake business license developers even as they intensified efforts to recover revenue lost through unregistered businesses, fake licenses or undercharges.
This is after traders who have been operating their businesses using bogus permits or running multiple businesses but registered as one type were arrested by revenue task-force officers on Thursday.
The officers are doing inspection across the County to ensure compliance.
Since adopting a new specialised system for tracking authenticity of permits through scanning QR codes, revenue officers have been able to detect valid permits that they have issued through records in their system as well as those that are fake.
The task-force comprising of interdepartmental officers together with the Sub County Administration are dispatched across the six Sub-counties to penetrate and access numerous revenue sources in Mombasa.
Given that implementation of County projects and better services rely on revenue, residents are being urged to pay for their rates and permits in time to avoid accruing penalties and being arrested.
