Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has suspended four top county employees over the Pumwani Hospital incident where he found 12 dead bodies of babies hidden in boxes two days ago.
Those suspended include acting Health Chief Executive Vesca Kangogo, County Secretary Peter Kariuki, County Attorney Lydia Kwamboka and Health Chief Officer Mahat Jimale.
The county chief at the same time replaced the suspended four with Charles Kerich who will be acting Health Chief Executive, Pauline Kahiga (County Secretary), Mohamed Saleh (Health Chief Officer) and Legal Affairs Director David Aseko (County Attorney).
Sonko on September 17 made an impromptu visit to Pumwani Hospital after receiving complaints from the facility over cases of negligence and laxity.
The suspension of the county officials came after Kangogo and Jimale differed with the Sonko regarding the conduct of workers at Pumwani.
The two had defended the hospital's staff against allegations of negligence.
During the visit, Sonko suspended the hospital superintendent Dr Catherine Mutinda, administrator Zaddock Angahya and Dr James Kamau who was the obstetrician and gynaecologist on duty.
Pumwani Hospital where he visited has been over the news for years on claims that women who deliver at the health facility sometimes lose their babies who are sold by nurses after delivery.
