Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has banned ferrying of students past 7.00 pm in the county.
Addressing the press at his office in Machakos town on Monday, Mutua said any vehicle found ferrying school children on the county roads past the stated time will be impounded.
He said drivers and adults in the vehicles will be arrested and the children taken to a designated comfortable area.
Mutua said such buses won't be released to the schools until a fine of not less than Sh.50,000 is paid.
"Proper logistics planning and adherence to the law should be out in place when planning school trips," Mutua said.
He said this is in abid to curb accidents involving school buses.
Mutua said vehicles emitting visible exhaust smoke will not be allowed to operate on Machakos roads regardless of whether they are headed to destinations within the county or on transit.
He said a fine of Sh150,000 will be levied on vehicles emitting visible smoke.
"Ensure before you enter Machakos road your vehicle is roadworthy since no unroadworthy car will be allowed to operate in Machakos, they will be stopped and towed and won't be allowed to be driven on Machakos roads until they are fixed," Mutua said.
Mutua said past 7 pm, every vehicle will be expected to have proper working lights failure to which they will be levied Sh20,000 per nonfunctional light.
Throwing of litter from moving vehicles or stationary vehicles on Machakos roads and sides are also prohibited.
He said the county spends a lot of money and time keeping the roads clean hence litter throwing won't be entertained.
Mutua said he has formed a Special Enforcement Unit of the Machakos County Inspectorate to enforce and ensure compliance.
He said the Unit will work in conjunction with the police and other relevant Government Agencies.
