Kiambu Women Representative Gathoni Wa Muchomba made history in the 2017 general election after she garnered a total of 915,992 votes to become the only MP to receive such a high number of votes in the entire country.
Apart from the presidential election where the whole nation votes for the candidates, Wa Muchomba become the first politician to ever garner such a number of votes in a single election.
She became the third most voted for politician in the August 8, 2017 polls, after President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga who took the first and second positions respectively.
Wa Muchomba worked for Kameme FM as a presenter before joining politics in 2017.
She contested for the women rep’s seat on a Jubilee party’s ticket after beating Anne Nyokabi, President Uhuru’s cousin during the party's nominations.
The first-time MP is, however, no stranger to controversy as Kiambu residents threatened to impeach her barely a month after being elected into office, following her move to publicly support a motion seeking for the increment of MPs pay.
The lawmaker later apologised to residents, promising to abide by the Salary and Remuneration Commission's (SRC) salary scales.
