This is in connection with the 2016 Rio Olympics scandal in which Ksh.55 million was misappropriated.

Wario has been told to appear alongside former National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) President Kipchoge Keino.

Wario is currently Kenya’s ambassador to Austria and is set to face graft charges alongside other Ministry of Sports officials implicated in the misappropriation of funds that were set aside for the Rio Olympic games.

other officers implicated in the scandal include Principal Secretary Richard Ekai, the then Rio Games Chief De Mission Stephen Soi and NOCK Secretary General Francis Kinyili.

the officials have been charged with making unauthorised payments, over-payment of allowances amounting to over Sh15 million and purchasing tickets worth Sh22 million which were not used by athletes or officials in the trip that was full of joyriders.

Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji says he is satisfied that there is sufficient evidence to charge the officials with the misappropriation of over Sh55 million.

If the DPP goes ahead to prosecute the officials, they might have to be replaced in their respective duties.
