David Murathe, who resigned as Jubilee vice-chair, caused quite a stir when he vowed to stop Deputy President William Ruto from contesting the presidency in 2022.
His pointed remarks, which have incensed DP Ruto's supporters, have got scores wondering what game the former vice chair of the governing party could be playing.
There are three possible games that the vocal political operator could be playing:
1. It is possible that Murathe could be pretending to be fighting the DP to make Raila and his ODM party complacent.
The facade of disunity could make Raila sit back and not work hard to get votes.
2. The President Kenyatta ally could be fighting Ruto to create room for another central Kenya candidate to contend the presidency using a Jubilee ticket.
With Ruto contesting in 2022 that would be difficult.
3. He could be working towards piling pressure on the DP to agree to a referendum that will change Kenya's governance structure.
With growing opposition, Ruto will be forced to support a referendum.
