The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji descended on the county of Kisumu on Tuesday.
In a series of tweets, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) said that the DPP's trip to Kisumu was aimed at listening to the concerns of the locals.
It was also aimed at impressing upon the locals the importance of plea bargaining guidelines and the diversionary policy.
"DPP Noordin Haji currently engaged in Community Dialogue with residents of Manyatta in Kisumu, to listen to and address their concerns and also sensitize them on Plea Bargaining Guidelines and Diversion Policy, " one of the tweets read.
According to DPP Noordin Haji, the diversionary policy would go a long way in solving misdemeanours and also help in reducing the pressure prisons and courts.
Plea bargains involve agreements entered between prosecutors and defendants that see one or two charges dropped after the defendants plead guilty.
"DPP says Diversion will be used to solve small matters like traffic offences in order to decongest prisons and courts. He said this will enhance access to justice for all, " the ODPP tweeted.
The DPP has been keen on heightening the public's awareness of what his responsibilities are.
His office is currently pursuing in courts of law wide ranging cases, ranging from corruption to murder.
