Conflict is looming between the county government of Nakuru and casual workers at the enforcement department over delayed payments.
According to over 39 casuals who have been offering their services at the enforcement department of the County government of Nakuru, their salaries have delayed since their engagement with county ended.
The casuals who addressed media on anonymity said their business with the county government of Nakuru ended prematurely through a verbal communication.
Since then, they say their lives have been messy as they cannot meet the basic needs of their families.
“Some of us have been on casual basis since the times of former Governor Kinuthia Mbugua but even with the current leadership we are yet to be employed on permanent basis” they said.
The casuals who were stopped from working at the enforcement department are now calling on the County Government of Nakuru to ensure justice on their side.
But in a quick rejoinder, Nakuru County Chief Officer for Public Service Management docket where the enforcement department rests Ms Anne Njenga said the budget constrains is what led to the move to have the casuals’ services suspended.
She was however quick to note that since she came into office in April, 2019 she has been trying to clear the arrears that the county owed the casuals.
According to the CO, if the decision to end their services was not taken, the casual workers at the enforcement department would have suffered more.
The Chief Officer also sounding a stern warning to the casuals whose services with the county ended but they have continued to harass business persons in town.
“We have budget constraints and that is why we had to stop the services of the causalities at the enforcement office and as we speak now we have paid them their dues up to October" she said.
She added that as from next year the department will no longer seek services of casual workers but rather they will be employed on permanent basis.
