This comes at a time when Raila, though still seen as a possible contestant for the 2022 presidential election, remains silent and noncommittal on revealing his plans.

Speaking on Saturday, Mwaura said Raila may not be in the ballot if his decision to retire is anything to go by.

At the same time, he observed that Raila is under intense pressure from his supporters to take another shot at the lucrative seat, after blaming three of his four losses on rigging.

"Raila's people want him to vie after several attempts. I asked him and he told me he will retire so I do not know if he will again vie (Watu wa Raila wanataka awe Rais maana amejaribu sana. Mi nimemuuliza akaniambia ataretire sasankama tena atasimama mimi sijui)," he said.

He was speaking on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi show on Saturday, also attended by former Makadara MP Benson Mutura and hosted by Bramwel Mwololo.

At the same time, he cautioned Kenyans of looming changes in the political arena, warning them against making predictions or casting too many hopes ahead of time.

"These remaining three years will see lots of realignments, let the people look but not rush (Katika hii miaka tatu imebaki kutakuwa na realignments, watu waangalie, waache kukimbia)," he added.

Already in the race are Deputy President William Ruto and Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua who have since declared their interests.
