A bodaboda rider in Nakuru has been handed a 15-year jail term after being found guilty of raping and robbing a client.
24-year-old Charles Ekiru was on Tuesday convicted for sexually abusing and robbing an Egerton University student of 390 shillings on June 24, 2018.
The incident happened after Ekiru lured the victim into his trap by offering her a lower price, offering to transport her on 70 shillings instead of the regular 100 charged for the route, reports the Standard.
Appearing before Nakuru Chief Magistrate Bernard Mararo, the victim recalled how Ekiru diverted when they were approaching the campus and took her to a bush where he committed the crime.
She added that he warned her against making noise, threatening to kill her if she shouted in the 10 PM ordeal.
“The motorcyclist diverted when we were near campus, took me to a bush near Kari Farm, ordered me to undress, slapped and punched me, choked me, sodomised and raped me and then apologised. I tried to scream for help but he threatened to kill me and took my mobile phone and Sh390 before he fled,” the victim told the Standard.
She was later taken to the institution’s hospital by security guards before reporting the case to the police.
